Young District Landcare Information Night
Young District Landcare is embarking on a new project for 2010
The project aims to support small to large scale property revegetation works, utilising plants grown from seeds of known local provenances. Young District Landcare is hosting an information night to inform interested parties of the planned activities for the project and possible future project development.
Young District Landcare (YDL) has been fortunate enough to be given grant money to implement this project. It is valuable we have input from you to see that the project has use, direction and valuable outcomes. Our unique range of native trees, shrubs and grasses have an invaluable place in our landscape, so let’s make use of them and support our own flora seed bank for better more cost effective vegetation projects long term.
In addition to the YDL Seedbank we are also looking at several other projects and/or workshops which we think might be of interest to the local community and would like to gauge your interest in these.
So if that or any of the following information interests you, then please take some time to come and find our more!
Florabank – Manage Seed Collection accredited course: Ever had an interest in learning about of native seed collection, including seed provenance, collection, storage and plant propagation?
Private Native Forestry workshop: Ever thought about forestry through private woodlots as another source of income?
Communities in Landscapes (CiL) – Box Gum Grassy Woodland CSIRO Component Project: Ever thought about your property being part of exciting new environmental project. The CSIRO are looking for survey and experimental/demonstration sites, which aim to help landholders improve restoration and revegetation outcomes under climate change.
Paddock Plants (NSW I&I through CiL): Helps you to identify and name the important plants in your paddock; Identify which plants are useful and which are weeds; Tell the difference between native and introduced grasses and understand the strengths and weaknesses of each; Understand what plants tell you about your paddock or landscape eg. why do some plants grow where they do and others do not? What is this telling you about the soils? i.e. what do these plants indicate about fertility or other characteristics of the landscape?
Time and Location: 6.30pm at the Commercial Hotel Young.
